First, since the last book study I have taken some time to read a few other books on my reading list; A Christmas Letter by Kimberla Lawson Roby, Lead Me Home by Stacy Hawkins Adams and Who Asked You by Terry McMillan.  All of these are very good reads.  However, as promised I will begin my next book study of Listening for the Voice of God on May 4th, 2015.

I am really excited about this book study as I am looking forward to having a much better understanding of how I can hear God’s voice over all of the other thoughts and concerns wondering around in my head and spirit.

Second, during the last book study the author talked about finding that one thing we struggle with most, that one thing we have a difficult time trusting God with. That one thing that you really want to believe God can fix but you just can’t seem to quite let go of.  For me that one thing was my finances.  It just seemed like I’d work and work all week long only to have few dollars left from my paycheck to carry me to the next one.  Being paid as an educator is very challenging.  I’m not sure about how other states and districts pay their teachers but my district only pays me for 10.5 months of work!  Therefore, I have to be very crafty in making 10.5 months of pay stretch 12 months.

After clearly verbalizing to myself that the “It” holding me back was my struggle with my finances, I decided to so something about “It”.  I decided that I would spend thirty days in prayer, study and quiet times about money management.  Below are several of the practical and key ways I learned throughout my study that would help anyone overcome financial struggles and ultimately lead to debt-free living (in no specific order) :

*Seek God’s Counsel – Matt. 6:33, Rom. 8:22, Phil. 4:19, 2 Cor. 9:8

*Give – Luke 6:38, Prov. 28:27, Mal. 3:10, Acts 20:35, John 3:16, John 6:38

*Live within a margin/boundary – Phil. 4:6, Prov. 21:5

*Save – Heb. 13:5, Prov. 21:20

*Keep out of debt – Prov. 22:7, Luke 19:17, Rom. 13:7-8

*Create a budget – John 10:10, Phil 4:13

*Get Educated – Prov. 4:5-7

As I tell my students, you always want to take something away from what you’ve read.  In reading God is Able by Priscilla Shirer, I was challenged to find the area in my life that was causing me the most struggle, voice it, own it and then do something about it.

Helping where I can… 🙂
