Buy the Shoes, Wear the Outfit

My mom was always a bit jazzy. She would drive my dad crazy with buying new outfits to wear to church every week because she didn't like being seen in the same thing twice. During the week, she'd wake up, get ready for work and step out in something that looked like a ball gown. My sister and I were always asking, "you wearing that to work?!" Mrs. Minnie would look at us like we were crazy and say, "I sure am!" That was my mother. Not a care in the world and always doing what she pleased.

The older I get, the more I recognize my parents in me. I think I have a nice balance of the two. I get the quiet, reserved side from my dad. I get the little bit creative, extra dramatic jazzy side from my mom. There are days when I go to put an outfit together and Love will say, "why don't you save that for a special occasion?" There were times when I did put the outfit back in the closet...but now, if I take it out, I wear it! It doesn't matter where we are going. I guess that's Mrs. Minnie in me!
Just last weekend, I pulled out an outfit to wear to brunch with my sister. It had been hanging in the closet just waiting for an opportunity to be worn. It was a simple pair of black pants but I had found a very cute black wrap to wear with it. It was perfect for a cool afternoon and so I wore it. When I got home, Love announced that we were going to the grocery store. As I got up to put on my shoes he asked, "aren't you going to change? That outfit is a bit dressy for Walmart. I replied, "absolutely not!"

We went to Walmart, we got the groceries and I was just as happy and comfortable as I could be. Now I know why my mom always bought the shoes and wore the outfits. When you dress your best, you feel your best and that makes for some very awesome days.
Take care of yourself and be well, my friends!
