Something About That Word

For the past few years, a friend and I have tried to gain more focus and understanding in our personal lives. We aimed to find the elusive balance everyone is always talking about. In doing so, we have set a few practices in motion. One of those practices includes a word for the year.
We try to think of one overall thing we would like to focus on and pray about a word that will help us carry this focus throughout the year. This year my word is discovery! I truly love this word. It reminds me to be open to new things, to take in the little things and to focus on the moments in front of me.

Discovery: the act or process of discovering.
Discovering: to make known or visible; to obtain sight or knowledge of for the first time.
It is the "obtain sight or knowledge of for the first time" that makes this the perfect word for me this year!
Just reading the definitions opens my mind and heart to the possibility of new things, new insights, hope, promise, love, joy, peace, patience. I am overly excited about discovering everything I do not, at this moment, know and everything I get the opportunity to learn.
My brother recently asked me, "are you ever going to stop?" I laughed because every time I think I am done, I fall in love with wanting to learn more about something else. That is discovery...always looking to learn more, to grow more and never stop.
I think we can all be blessed and enjoy the lives we always dreamed we could have when we do not stop growing and learning. Discovery is what takes us to new places, new understandings, new ways of being. Discovery is also how we unlearn the negative mindset and systemic processes we were taught to believe about ourselves and become who we were truly intended to be.
