My life coach is forever telling me to take care of myself. "You know you can't help anyone else until you first help yourself," she is always saying.

In the past year, I have taken her words a bit more to heart. When I do things that I enjoy, when I pamper myself, just a little, I find that I have more energy to tackle the things that I don't like so much such as cleaning the house!

As an educator, work can be very stressful. No two days are the same and there are so many people that need your attention. Your students need you, their parents need you, your team needs you, your administration needs you, your district needs you. We will not even mention your home life or personal life...what's that? Finding balance is hard. Most importantly, finding time to simply regroup for yourself is hard.

So, I decided to make myself a list of things I can do to pamper myself! I listed all of the things I enjoyed but seldom did. Each month, I pick an item from the list and I do it! Getting my nails done every two weeks is a staple. I do that without fail because I like that it makes me feel all girlie. In addition to that, I include one of the items from my list. This month, I attended a Sound Bath Meditation class.

The yoga study where I practice hosts this event once a month. Many of the people who attend yoga class with me had raved about it. I talked to my yoga instructor about it, the practice and its benefits and decided to give it a try. Talk about relaxing!!

The instructor played various instruments including singing bowls while we each meditated in our own way. What an experience! I was totally relaxed and clear minded when I left. Anytime you are doing something for yourself, time seems to fly by. What was an hour long class seemed like fifteen minutes. I will definitely be adding this activity back to my list. It is a practice that I would like to keep as a part of my regular healthy mind and spirit routine.
